Areported shooting took place at a Homecoming party for Texas A&M University at Commerce on Saturday night. A graphic video of the aftermath was captured on Snapchat and posted on Twitter. In the video, there appears to be numerous victims at The Party Venue located in Greenville, Texas, which is located 20 miles away from the school’s campus.
The reported location of the shooting is around 16 miles from the university’s campus. Unconfirmed reports say 20 or more people have been shot.
The incident happened just after midnight on Sunday when officers were called for an active shooter at The Party Venue on Highway 380 in Greenville, a city in Hunt County, about 45 miles (72 km) northeast of Dallas.
The first official response to the incident came about 3:15 a.m. from Texas A&M Commerce police, who made it clear themass shooting did not occur in Commerce.
WFAA-TV reporter Jason Whitely tweeted at least two people are k dead and a dozen more injured. Whitely said: “At least two fatalities. More than a dozen injured. A 227 caliber rifle is believed to be used. Motive unknown.”
A woman retweeted the gruesome video on Facebook and wrote, “My daughter is in this video .God cover my child tonight.” Another wrote, “My daughter is wants to come home. This is her first college experience and to mess up because of violence. I hate that for my child. Her step brother was killed.”
According to initial reports, there are up to 20 gunshot victims, including multiple fatalities and serious injuries. Jason Whitely, a reporter for local ABC affiliate WFAA, said at least two people were killed and more than 12 others are injured.
There are thought to have been hundreds of students in the venue at the time celebrating the start of the school year. More than 100,000 people had attended a college football game earlier in the day.
