The UFC Busan main event pits former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar against home country hero Chan Sung Jung (aka The Korean Zombie).
The final UFC Fight Night for 2019 takes place at Sajik Arena in Busan, South Korea this Saturday, December 21. MMA event on ESPN+ features the 13-fight bill.
Edgar (23-7-1 MMA, 17-7-1 UFC) steps in on short notice this Saturday, when he takes on Chan Sung Jung (15-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in the UFC on ESPN+ 23 headliner in Busan, South Korea. The full card streams live on ESPN+.
The UFC Busan co-main event features two light heavyweight fighters trying to find their way into a title fight. Volkan Oezdemir lost to Daniel Cormier in his only UFC title fight to date, and is trying to earn another crack at gold. He lost bouts to Anthony Smith and Dominick Reyes after failing to take the belt from Cormier, but rebounded with a knockout of Ilir Latifi earlier this year.

Edgar stepping in against Jung makes for an excellent fight, but it us an odd move in the greater scheme of things, especially given where the American’s career stands at the moment. After losing to Max Holloway in a featherweight title in July, Edgar announced his intent to cut down to bantamweight and in fact still has a fight on the books at 135 pounds next month.
“I would absolutely take a fight against Volkanovski,” Edgar said in an interview with Rank5. “I’m in it to fight the best guys; that’s why I’m fighting Chan. I came into this sport to be a champion, and if it’s not at ’45 or ’35 or ’55, then what am I doing?”
