Gunshots were exchanged between a student and a school resource officer inside Waukesha South High School, according to school officials.
The Waukesha Freeman reports that a student was taken to a hospital on a stretcher after the incident, which happened before 10:30 a.m. Monday. There was no initial word on specifics about the incident. Students were being held in their classrooms according to the Freeman, but as of 10:45 a.m., there was no longer a threat.
The school is on lockdown, according to the Waukesha Freeman. In addition to the high school, Whittier Elementary School is also on lockdown, CBS 58 reports.
According to the Waukesha Freeman, a male was put into an ambulance on a stretcher. Officials say there is no longer a threat in the building, the Freeman said in a tweet.
Emergency radio traffic indicated a command post is being set up inside the school. Police squad cars are blocking all the entrances at the high school.
