Marvel Studios' Black Widow trailer is finally here. We've got our first look at Scarlett Johannson's first solo movie as Natasha Romanoff in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Now, Natasha Romanoff is back in her own stand-alone Marvel film. Black Widow hits theaters in May of 2020 and will officially kick off Marvel Phase 4.
Clocking in at more than two minutes, it's surprisingly robust for a teaser, providing some context within the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the assassin turned S.H.I.E.L.D. agent turned Avenger, before sending her off to confront her past, and reunite with her "family."
First footage from the film was screened at the 2019 San Diego Comic Con. “Where we find Natasha in her life at this point is very specific,” Johansson told EW at the time. “She really is in a dark place where she’s got no one to call and nowhere to go. She’s really grappling with her own self. When something huge explodes and all the pieces are landing, you have that moment of stillness where you don’t know what to do next that’s the moment that she’s in. In that moment, you actually have to face yourself.”
The film takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
Johansson is also acting as executive producer on the film, which is directed by Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome). At Comic-Con in July Johansson described the film: “Where we find Natasha in her life at this point is very specific She really is in a dark place where she’s got no one to call and nowhere to go. She’s really grappling with her own self In that moment, you actually have to face yourself.”
Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, and will open in theaters May 1, 2020.
