Wednesday is World Kindness Day and many are also deeming it Cardigan Day

Many are celebrating World Kindness Day by wearing a cardigan Today, November 13, 2019, is World Kindness Day. I have seen many people encouraging us to were a cardigan today to honor Mr. Rogers on this day.

Cardigan Day is a nod to the iconic children’s television star, Fred Rogers. Everyone is encouraged to wear a cardigan, to represent the kindness that the late Mr. Rogers spread.

Acts of kindness don't have to be grand gestures. Showing someone that you care could take something as little as paying for their coffee order or wishing them a good day.

The campaign started on social media and comes just ahead of the November 22nd release of “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” a film that is based off of Roger's real life friendship with a journalist Tom Junod.

World Kindness Day was first launched in 1998 by The World Kindness Movement, an organisation formed at a 1997 Tokyo conference of like-minded kindness organisations from around the world. There are currently over 28 nations involved in The World Kindness Movement which is not affiliated with any religion or political movement. The mission of the World Kindness Movement and World Kindness Day is to create a kinder world by inspiring individuals and nations towards greater kindness.

The aim of the day is to "highlight our good deeds in our communities, cities and nations" and to place "further focus on the positive power and common thread of kindness", explains Stephen Oke, secretary-general of the organisation.

The theme for this year's World Kindness day is empathy, encouraging people across the globe to better understand "the pains of others" and touch their lives "positively".
