Scooby Doo Movie 2020 First Trailer Reveals Scooby Doo And Shaggy’s Origin Story

Warner Bros has just released the first trailer for their latest Scooby-Doo film Scoob! 2020 and it puts the focus on the origin story of Shaggy and Scooby-Doo and how they met as kids.

The good news is that all three of my kids (ages 12, 8 and 4) think Scoob looks charming enough to justify an eventual theatrical outing. We aren’t necessarily Scooby Doo super-fans, but they’ve seen enough of the many (many) incarnations to qualify as “aware of and interested in the property” fans. I was never big into the property as a kid, oddly enough, although the last two live-action movies (Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins and Scooby Doo: Curse of the Lake Monster) were quite good.

“Can you do the trailer guy voice,” Shaggy asks his pet companion. “In a world, destoryed by evil, discover the epic origin story of the greatest team of heroes in the history of mystery. Not bad,” he barks back.

SCOOB! reveals how lifelong friends Scooby and Shaggy first met and how they joined with young detectives Fred, Velma and Daphne to form the famous Mystery Inc. Now, with hundreds of cases solved and adventures shared, Scooby and the gang face their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this global “dogpocalypse,” the gang discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.

The trailer is a nostalgic road trip. Little Scoob and Shag are heart-wrenchingly wholesome (so tiny!), and the rest of the gang in their Halloween costumes are a sweet reminder of Saturday mornings joining the Mystery Inc.-ers as they unmasked baddies.

Will Forte as Shaggy and Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo, Zac Efron as Fred, Amanda Seyfried as Daphne and Gina Rodriguez as Velma. The film also features Kiersey Clemons, Ken Jeong, and Tracy Morgan.

Scoob stars Kiersey Clemons as Dee Dee, Zac as Fred, Will Forte as Shaggy; Jason Isaacs as Dick Dastardly, Ken Jeong as Dynomutt, Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman, Gina Rodriguez as Velma, Amanda Seyfried as Daphne, Mark Wahlberg as Blue Falcon and Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo. “SCOOB!” is directed by Tony Cervone. Scooby Doo is one of those properties, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, that gets recycled (usually through animated television) frequently enough that the kids who grow out of it are replaced by the next batch of Scooby fans. That’s the likely thinking behind this new toon.

Scoob! is directed by Scooby-Doo franchise veteran Tony Cervone and is set to be released on May 15th, 2020.
