Kartarpur Corridor “Peace Corridor” Open Way For Sikh Jatha Says Imran Khan

Kartarpur Corridor Opening and Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from across the world are eagerly waiting that for Saturday's historic opening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan separately inaugurate the cross-border pathway in their respective countries.

The corridor’s official opening on November 9 will mark history for Indian Sikh pilgrims, who have been unable to visit the site without a (hard-to-obtain) visa since 1947, the year of Indian partition.

The foundation stone for the Kartarpur Corridor had been laid on the Indian side on November 26, 2018. Two days later, the foundation stone had been laid on the Pakistani side.

Speaking at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur, PM Modi said, "I would like to thank the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan Niazi for respecting the sentiments of India. The opening of Kartarpur Sahib corridor before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji has brought us immense happiness."

The corridor links Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in this Punjab district.

The 2.9-mile passage connects the Sikh temples of Dera Baba Nanak Sahib in India and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan. The Pakistani temple is particularly revered by Sikhs as it is believed to be where Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, lived and died at the start of the 16th century.

Before the inauguration ceremony, Modi paid obeisance at Ber Sahib Gurudwara at Sultanpur Lodhi, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said on Friday.

Asserting that he is fortunate to be able to dedicate the Kartarpur corridor to the country, he said the opening of the corridor and the integrated check post will bring double happiness to the people.

On November 22, 2018, the Union Cabinet had passed a resolution to celebrate the historic occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in a "grand and befitting manner", throughout the country and across the globe.
