Contra Costa County and Hazardous Air Quality after Smoke Advisory Issued Contra Costa Health Services announced Sunday night that residents of Pittsburg, Bay Point, central Concord and Walnut Creek are urged to stay inside with windows and doors closed on Sunday night and Monday morning due to hazardous air quality.
Smoke from a large vegetation fire in Solano County has prompted a smoke advisory to be issued in Contra Costa County, officials said Sunday. The 1,000 acre fire started in the Grizzly Island Wildlife Area in Suisun. No structures are currently threatened and no evacuations have been ordered.
Air quality in the area has reached hazardous levels at times due to smoke from a large fire burning in Solano County. People in the area should avoid contact with the smoke and minimize any time spent outdoors, especially older adults, pregnant women, people who have asthma, lung or heart disease.
The fire was first reported at 2:23 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
“Eye, skin, nose or throat irritation may be possible for some people in the affected area. If people experience any irritation, advise them to go inside and rinse any irritated area of their body with water. Handle this as advisory information only,” the department said.
The smoke from several East Bay fires Sunday was blown by the strong winds toward the South Bay, causing unhealthy quality in the region, according to KPIX 5 meteorologist Darren Peck.
Symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain or chest tightness may require immediate medical attention. Call 911 if you experience these symptoms.
